Koda began learning drums at the age of 13 and immediately dedicated his life to learning the craft. He started gigging at the age of 16 and teaching at the age of 19. Before graduating high school, Koda bought a vibraphone and has spent many hours studying the instrument. After high school, he began working as a live sound engineer and roadie for a wedding band, which he did on a weekly basis for multiple years, while also playing with various rock and blues groups. Additionally, Koda worked in a rehearsal studio, continued teaching lessons, and had a part in multiple Fort Collins drum festivals. In 2023, he began working with Cary Morin and became extremely dedicated to hand percussion. Koda continues to play percussion with Cary Morin & Ghost Dog and has shared many notable stages with them around the country, including Rocky Mountain Folks Fest, Dazzle Jazz Club, and The Tractor Tavern in Seattle. He also plays drums in the modern jazz trio Side Effect and vibraphone in the latin group Guarache. He is always looking for more opportunities to play.
Koda Gray is often noted for his positive and enthusiastic energy, as well as his musical ability. He dedicates himself to music on a daily basis, remains teachable, and shares his positivity with everyone around.Â
